About
Professor Jinyu Liu is a faculty member in the Department of Classical Studies at DePauw University, in Greencastle, Indiana, a position she has held since August 2004. She has a Ph.D. in Ancient History from Columbia University (2004) and regularly teaches Roman Civilization, Ancient Mediterranean World and Latin at DePauw. She was awarded visiting fellowships at the Center for Epigraphical and Paleographical Studies (Ohio State University) in the summer of 2007 and the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (New York University) in 2007–2008 during her sabbatical leave. Her research interests include social relations in Roman cities, the non-elite in the Roman Empire, Latin epigraphy, as well as the reception of Graeco-Roman classics in China. Her monograph
Collegia Centonariorum: the Guilds of Textile Dealers in the Roman West was published by Brill in 2009. She has also published several articles on Latin inscriptions and the ancient associations and has a chapter on professional associations forthcoming in the Cambridge Companion to Ancient Rome (edited by Paul Erdkamp). Sponsored by a Mellon New Directions Fellowship, a DePauw Faculty Fellowship and other grants, she is currently completing a book-length project on the translation history of Graeco-Roman classics in China.
